Psychological Testing
Therapy Service
Through an evaluation, a therapist can diagnose and identify psychiatric and developmental disorders. The person’s behaviors, medical and mental health histories, developmental milestones, and the answers to specific questions enable the therapist to plan a treatment approach. Examples of diagnoses that can be made through this process are depression, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, and ADHD.
By identifying the psychological disorder, the therapist can build an effective treatment plan.
Neuropsychological Testing
Through specifically designed exercises, our therapists can measure cognitive function that is linked to a particular brain pathway or function. This testing can be helpful in understanding the cause of frustrations or obstacles a person may experience, in school, at work, in relationships, or in social situations.
The aim of a neuropsychological exam is to have the best understanding of the person’s function so that a treatment or coping plan can be developed.
Dementia Screening
Professionals use a range of tests—cognitive, functional, and behavioral—to evaluate memory, thinking, and simple problem-solving. Neuropsychological testing can be helpful to assess executive function, attention, language, and judgment.
The appropriate level of testing for dementia can be used to establish a baseline and assess cognitive changes over time. The therapist will work with you or your family to understand how the outcomes of a dementia assessment will affect decision-making and support requirements.
ADHD Screening
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is most often diagnosed in children (and boys more often than girls), but it can persist into adulthood. It can lead to behavioral challenges, since people with ADHD can find it hard to pay attention, focus on a task, or sit still. They may act without thinking or be easily distracted.
Awareness of the disorder can change the way behavior is managed, both for children and adults. ADHD test results support the development of treatment and coping plans.
Presurgical Evaluations
Both risks and positive attributes are identified during a presurgical evaluation and shared with the patient, doctor, and insurance providers. The goal is to assure that a patient is ready to undergo procedures with the best likelihood of a successful outcome.
